Getting rid of the excess in your home will make it easier to move and ensure that you have space for new memories in your new house.

If you find it hard to organise your de-cluttering, there are some tips and advice that you can use.

Be Systematic

One of the mistakes that a lot of people make when clearing their home is to do a little bit here and there. This is a serious problem because you actually create more clutter in this way. What you should be doing is a systematic declutter of your home by going through each room before moving onto the next.

It is recommended that you have 4 boxes or bags that you can place items in. The first should be labelled keep, the second give away, the third sell and the last rubbish. As you move through a room and all of the cupboards, you should place the items in the right bag or box.

Be Ruthless

When you declutter, you need to be ruthless and seriously consider if you need each item. When you are looking at clothing, you should get rid of anything that no longer fits you or that you have not worn in the last year. If you have items of sentimental value, you need to place them somewhere where they will not be damaged.

While working through all of the items, you should not keep anything that you think you might need in the future. This is where most of the clutter in your home comes from and you have to be ruthless with them. If you have not used the item already, there is a slim chance that you are urgently going to need it in the future.

Organise Your Paperwork

Paperwork can cause more clutter than you imagine and it takes up a lot of space. This is why you need to organise it as you work through your home. Most people hold onto pieces of paper thinking that they will be useful one day, but getting rid of this can be extremely satisfying.

When you work through your paperwork, you will have to keep all of your essential documents. This will include insurance documents, certificates and any financial documents. In regards to the financial documents, if the document is more than 6 years old, you can get rid of it as recommended by HMRC. When removing paperwork, you need to ensure that you shred it to reduce the chances of any fraud.

Ask For Help From A Friend

If you find that you have a lot of clutter and excess items, you should ask for some help from a friend. Ideally, you will want help from a friend who will not give in to any need to keep unnecessary items. If you know that you are a bit of a hoarder, you have to get some help with de-cluttering or you will end up keeping everything instead.
